Edge by Jeffery Deaver

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I loved this one. All the main characters are likable, the story is fast-paced, and there were some twists you just don’t expect, even if you’re a Deaver fan. Sure, some of the characters’ move were more like psychic than anticipatory/logical, but the author presents it in a believable manner.

The Casual Vacancy by J. K. Rowling

The Casual VacancyThe Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rowling

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I did not enjoy this book very much, that’s why it took me more than 7 months to finish it. I pre-ordered a special edition that comes with a book bag, and got it the day it came out. I started reading it during the weekend, and knew from the first few pages that I wouldn’t like it. I stuck to it though because it’s J.K. Rowling and there might be a pay off in the end. Well, the ending was satisfying enough. You know a book like this will only have to end in tragedy, and it did. But there was a hopeful tone to it, so that’s a good thing. I would have only given the book 2 stars, but I liked Rowling’s writing style so I gave it an extra star.

Daniel X: Demons and Druids by James Patterson and Adam Sadler

Daniel X: Demons and Druids (Daniel X, #3)Daniel X: Demons and Druids by James Patterson

This was better than the last one, probably the best of the series. Still, it’s not “great”, just good. Loved the time-traveling powers he learned, and also the mythology around England.

An ok read. I wanted to say this is worse than the first book in the series, but that sounds bad, and I am not comfortable dissing my fave author’s works lol. I still don’t like the main character that much, so finishing this book was a more difficult than the first. What probably carried me through was the action scenes and the light humor. It could probably use a little more plot twists.

The Dangerous Days of Daniel X by James Patterson and Michael Ledwidge

The Dangerous Days of Daniel X (Daniel X, #1)The Dangerous Days of Daniel X by James Patterson

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

You can rely on James Patterson to come up with a fast-read book. This was a young adult novel, probably his first? It’s his answer to the recent popularity of YA books. It’s sci-fi, so that’s different from his other works. I kind of don’t like the main character Daniel, I thought he’s arrogant. The other characters are likeable though.

In other news, I think I am all caught up with my Goodreads challenge. I’ll continue reading this series to put some buffer when I start reading my other, thicker books.

Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson

Steve JobsSteve Jobs by Walter Isaacson

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I would like to mention that thanks to losing Internet for a day, I was able to have the time to finish this book. I liked the book because it was not only a personal story of Steve Jobs, but also a history of all the companies and products he worked on, such as Apple and Pixar. There are some inspirational stuff inside that is worth remembering. I only gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because there were some parts that did not interest me, which kept me from finishing this book sooner.

Another fast read for me. This was a great read, although you may have to suspend reality for a bit. A lot of the twists sound impossible, but I read Jeffery Deaver’s books for the excitement and the surprises, and I got them, so I can’t complain. First book to finish this 2013! 1 down, 49 to go! Woohoo!

Fractured by Karin Slaughter

Fractured (Will Trent, #2)Fractured by Karin Slaughter

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I loved it. The characters were engaging and unique. A dyslexic detective who can’t read? Fascinating. The whole story happens within the span of 3 days, the same time it took me to finish the book. I’d have probably finished sooner if I didn’t have work to go to. I’m going to start buying all her books now.

Against Medical Advice: One Family's Struggle with an Agonizing Medical MysteryAgainst Medical Advice: One Family’s Struggle with an Agonizing Medical Mystery by James Patterson

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I seldom read non-fiction books, but this was written by James Patterson so I had to read it. I bought this book almost two years ago and it’s just now that I’ve gotten to read it. It’s the story of a boy with Tourette syndrome. I am familiar with this disorder before I read the book because I’ve seen a movie about it before. However, before I started reading, I didn’t know what the story was about. Overall I liked the book, it was engaging as well as an inspiring story. You can’t help but care for the main character, and celebrate with him when he overcame Tourette.

Cross Fire by James Patterson

Cross Fire (Alex Cross, #17)Cross Fire by James Patterson

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Once again James Patterson reminds me why he’s one of my favorite authors. The book was fast-paced and exciting. This one kept me away from the computer for several hours because I wanted to finish it as soon as possible. There’s an unresolved issue in my opinion, but since it’s part of a series I know the issue will be resolved in a future book.
